M-LASEK surgery has opened the way to safely treat many patients who could not be treated before. However, there was a limitation in that the higher the patient's preoperative refractive error, the more corneal tissue had to be removed. This limitation was present in both LASIK and LASEK, and it was particularly problematic for those with high myopia, thin corneas, or large pupils. Even for general patients, removing less corneal tissue allows for a safer procedure. Dr. Dong-Ho Lee of Apgujeong Yonsei Eye Clinic conducted years of research on this issue and developed a surgical method that can reduce corneal tissue removal by 20-30%, which he named Premium M-LASEK.
